Hi everyone! I wanted to throw an idea out there to hopefully have someone respond and say "this already exists". If not, then I hope it can start a discussion that could lead to something that I think would be really neat.
In flying my hexcopter and quadcopter, I would really like to be able to be flying with a three axis gimbal and select a point on a map to have the camera "Lock On" to that location. I know this can be done with region of interest and circle as flight modes, but I would like to be able to do this while manually flying. Also, I know that the same effect can be had with two operators, but a single operator solution would be quite convenient.
If the gimbal has the ability to reference frame angles, the adjustment of gimbal heading could be calculated and you could fly the quadcopter however you would like and have it still point the camera gimbal at a certain location.
If the gimbal cant reference the frame, then the craft could switch into simple mode so that the heading can be adjusted to keep the camera on target while flying relative to an initial heading.
However this could be implemented, it would be a great tool for framing simple moving shots and hopefully would provide much better results than just hoping that a shot was framed correctly.
Thoughts??
