This is a video that we know a lot people have been waiting for, so I'm going to forgo my usual florid preamble and give you the link:

As regular viewers will recall, Robert over at UAVProducts.com, formerly DJI USA <ding!>, provided us with an S800 hexacopter as well as a WooKong-M flight control system so that we could make one of our “unboxing, installation and testing” videos about these products – which we wouldn't have been able to get our hands on otherwise...

When we opened up the boxes and took a look at what was inside, it was clear that adequately covering each of them was going to be a significant undertaking in its own right, so trying to pack them both into a single video would be both unwieldy and potentially confusing.

The WooKong-M and the S800 work great together: the S800's central frame has specific mounting points for some of the WooKong-M's components, but there is no reason you couldn't use one without the other. Go ahead and mount a NAZA on your S800 – I bet that would work great, too... Or, put the WooKong-M on your home-built quadrotor.

For all of those reasons, we decided to make two separate videos. The S800 video went live six weeks ago. In it, we made the mistake of alluding to the forthcoming WooKong-M video – and people have been pestering us about it ever since.

Well, today, your patience is rewarded. Thanks for sticking with us!

  • Hi there. I recently got the S800 along with the Wookong M and the data link which brings a single waypoint. I have been having some trouble using the GCS. It seems the handshake doesn't work. I got my S/N number from the distributor plugged it in, it says activated but won't get a GPS lock. I've tried it in various locations. Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong.
