Powering APM 2.5 with non 3DR power module

Hi

I'm Setting up my APM 2.5 system for my bixler 1.1 plane , and just not sure what BEC will be safe

to power the board and the servos.

I plan on using RCtimer current sensor and Turnigy Plush 30A ESC, and have jp1 on.

I've added a diagram of how I plan to connect things.

any feedback will be appreciated.

thanks

  • I don't think it will ever be safe to power the board and your servos using a single bec.  Does your esc have a bec built in?  If possible when using servos, I would try to figure out a way to power everything with JP1 removed to better isolate apm voltage supply from servo noise.

    • Thanks bblatter.

I've done more searches and reading and came up with this set up

I think it will be much safer for the plane.

      any thoughts?

      thanks

      • One more thing, I don't have experience with the rctimer sensor so I can't comment on the wiring for that.
        • thanks again bblater for your comment.

I will try to connect the servos with all 3 wires it will much easier.

      • I think you might need to run a ground wire between the servos and the output. Otherwise the pwm signals that the servos receive may not be at the right voltage relative to the servos power supply. You might be ok because both becs are sharing a ground at the battery. It is important that the ground wire of the output of one bec is at the same voltage as the ground wire of the output of the other bec.

But with Jp1 off, I think it is safe to run the servo bec to the apm output on an unused port. Then plug the servos in to their respective ports using all three wires. This is definitely a lot easier to wire too because you won't have to fiddle with all of your servo connectors.
