Powering Pixracer from a Matek PDB

Hello,

I have a Pixracer bought from auav.co complete with the assorted cables but without a power unit. I want to use this Matek PDB to power Pixracer (the 5V lines) and provide current and voltage monitoring via an APM power module.

According to the Pixracer schematic here, the two 5V_BRICK lines should come from the Matek PDB (with a GND line also) and the voltage and current monitor lines (with a GND) from the APM. Am I right on this?

The second question is this: the Matek 5V BEC (full specifications are available in the above Banggood page) manages up to 3A. Is it safe to power from this line the Pixracer and from the Pixracer to power my Flysky RX module, the Neo m8n GPS, a 3DR 433MHz telemetry (TELEM2) and a MinimOSD v1.1 board (TELEM1)? If this is too much for the Pixracer, can at least power the GPS and RX from it and provide 5V to the rest directly from the Matek 5V BEC?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

  • Great, will give it a go, thank you for the response!

  • Hi Hrvoje,

Yes, it is quite easy to power the PixRacer from the Matec PDB.

All I did was connect the two 5V expected lines by the PixRacer to the 5V BEC output of the Matek PDB and doing the same for the two GND lines as well. I used the attached picture for reference.

You need to connect the two PWR GND lines together to the Matec 5V GND pad and the two PWR POWER_5V_IN lines to the Matek 5V pad. This is enough to power the PixRacer without any issues.

For voltage and current monitoring, I've used an APM Power Module v1.0 board I had lying around by only connecting the current and voltage monitor lines to CURRENT_SENSE and VOLTAGE_SENSE pins respectively.

Hi Manos, I have the same situation as you, having bought pixracer and matek 5in1 pdb. Did you manage to connect them together? Thank you, Hrvoje
