I am having major problems with my ArduCopter running the 2.7.3 firmware and Mission Planner version 1.2.12.

This all occurred after a nasty crash but while I was fixing it the Mission Planner and ArduCopter software were also updated. After reconnecting and updating the firmware for the first time I noticed a host of problems.

1. All the radio levels in the configuration menu are at zero "Not even 1500 like with a disconnected                 controller but 0". However when I go into the terminal and run a radio or pwm test I get normal values between 1000 and 2000.

2. When I try to level I get a error that says something along the lines of "failed to level: arducopter 2.0 + required".

3. When I try to level in the terminal it locks up on "init gyro".

4. I can not arm the ArduCopter no matter what combination of stick positions I try it will not work, but if I level the throttle at the top when powering on I can enter ESC calibration mode and calibrating my ESCs appears to succeed.

I am pretty sure most of the problems are not due to the crash but because the updates and the crash occurred at the same time I do not know which has me grounded right now. Also I have tried uploading old firmwares and running old versions of the Mission Planner but have not had any luck.

My ArduPiolt is APM V2.5. Any help with this issue would be appreciated as I am at my wits end and between school and robotics I don't really have time to dig deep into the code and find the problem.

  • I am having the same failure on a new APM 2.5.  MIssion planer does not update,  setup/accel and test/ins halt/hang on init gyro.  I will try some of the suggestion and report back findings.

  • I'm facing extact the same Problem.

I started to build my ArduCopter and everything was ok, when i tried to first fly it, i couldn't arm the motors and the blue LED lit steady.

After a debugging session i could confirm that i had changed _nothing_ except for mounting it on the frame, i didn't even changed cabling.

    Can confirm the same Problems:

    - Stalls at "Init Gyro" at this time you cannot use missionplanner to do anything, it just doesn't respond anymore (that causes the Missionplanner to show "0"-values in radio)

    - Reset helps nothing

    - Setup is reachable through CLI and all tests except the radio working fine (ppm, compass, etc)

    - Dataflash is ok (can erase it and access it through CLI)

    - It appeares just after i tested the motors and battery (speed them up and let the motors on just like flying, speed them down and disarm), disconnected the battery and attached a new one, after attaching the new battery it booted till the blue LED.
    - Flashed and reset the Mainchip and 32u2 several times, nothing helped

    - Power distribution is fully ok, i measured it throughout the board, so no cold solder joints in power system.

If you know what the error is i would really appreciate it if you share the solution.

I returned the board to my dealer now, as i just recieved it two days ago.

  • Bump the problem is worse than I thought. There is no data at all being displayed in the status tab of the mission planner. I can get readings in the terminal for devices like the compass and the radio but when I click the connect button I don't seem to get any data. The link stats shows a reasonable amount of bytes being transferred "a few k per minute".

Also a quick note my GPS was heavily damaged during the crash as well as the connector on the APM which finally snapped off today during testing. Could this problem be caused by having the GPS disconnected?

Again any help is appreciated... My plan right now is buy a new APM under the assumption that my current one has limited to no functionality, but I am running out of money from my summer job and I don't want to drain to much more money into this project.
