prop orientation which way to go.

Hi Guys I’ve taken on a new project.

And need to some help

I want to take a standard Quad copter and extend the arms , then place two motors on each arm I.E. have 8 motor on quad configeration connected in parallel as a Quad

My question is does both motors on each arm need to spin the same direction? Or can I make them spin opposite to stop oscillation?

Any ideas?

  • At that length I'd be bracing the arms anyway.
  • Away from beeing a expert, I believe if you put the 2 motors spinning opposite directions, it will be less stressing for the arm and the entire structure. If both spin the same direction, you will have twice the torque (depending on motor placement) on the arm, affecting the fixation point to the structure.

  • Interesting question. I'm inclined to think "same" would give you a little more lift. Are you proposing X or + configuration?
You may want to set up a custom mix, where only the outer props are used to control yaw.
    They'll be long arms...
