Quadcopter blows back and flips over in the wind

Hi All,

Where I am here in Texas the wind has been relentless, 20-30mph every day.

So when I got a wind of about 10-15 I went out to try my custom quad.

In Acro mode I can fly against the wind but it is fairly hard to control and will occasionally pitch up and over.

In stable mode, I can fly against the wind for a very short time before it will pitch up and the wind will get it and blow it backwards and flip it over.

I'm not sure what PID values I need to tune in order to get STABILIZE mode to be stable in the wind.

And what wind speed can one expect to fly an Arducopter controlled quad to be able to handle?

Thanks,

Dave

I've flown in 15-20 MPH winds OK, but you need to solder your filter pads and run the latest code to do it. Earlier versions could not recover fast enough from drifting gyros due to vibrations. Wind was the situation that caused the worst problems.

I flew in 50mph+ winds once. I loved that copter. Oh well...
