Quadcopter startup issues

I am having strange startup issues with my Quadcopter. When connecting the battery, some motors might start with their beep sequence as normal while others might have kickback. It is not always the same motors that produce these issues. Sometimes the motors dont startup at all. I have investigated all the wiring but cannot find any issues. All the motors are the same and of the same type as is the ESC's. I have even swooped out motors and ESC's to try and sort this problem but it persists.

I have found that when connecting the battery cable there might be some spark after which I get this type of problem, I have even installed a switch between the external UBEC and the RC equipment but this did not help either.

I have attached a drawing of my configuration which might help explain my setup. Can someone please help?

  • Rob, JMD45 is correct, the Pulso DLU70A+ OPTO series ESC must be connected to 4.8v to work, The ESC will not provide power to the Motors otherwise
  • Rob, it is still a physical switch mounted on top of my quad, I will investigate the remote option tomorrow. Just a plain remote with a relay like you would use to arm or disarm your car alarm, just smaller. Preferably not a toggle switch but ON only
  • I got my setup to work. It seems that APM sends out a rouge ppm signal pulse during boot-up. This also changes the ESC programming such as motor timing and brake functions. I run my motors with high timing, no brakes. I changed the position of my switch to be between the UBEC and the ESC's. First I connect the battery which provides power to the motors and also allows my RC Equipment and APM to boot. As soon as APM is booted I can switch on the ESC's allowing them to boot up properly.
