Quadcopter switched to SimonK ESC's now un-flyable

Hi There,

I've recently changed all the ESC's on my quad to SimonK ones to improve it's handling and responsiveness. But now every time it takes off it rapidly starts precessing and inevitably crashes within a few seconds. I've tried tuning it using the extended tuning panel in Mission Planner with no success.

I've had a look in the log file and the gyros and accelerometers seem to be giving the correct readings.

Has anyone seen anything like this before when changing to SimonK ECU's. What could cause it and can be fixed by tuning parameters alone?

The firmware is : ArduCopter V3.1.5 (3c57e771)

Here's a link to a video showing the behaviour : http://youtu.be/euIMLwew9PY

I've attached the log file for the flights shown in the video, as well as a screen shot of the tuning parameters I'm flying.

Thanks in advance.

  • Thank you for the suggestions guys.

I loaded the default PID's for my frame type in Mission Planner. Initial Setup->Mandatory Hardware->Frame Type

I selected just the PID parameters to be updated, and now she's flying better than ever.

I can vouch for the improvement now I'm flying SimonK ESC's the quad feels so much more responsive than it was before.

  • Reset your PIDs to default to make it fliable, then try to figure out the new PIDs...

  • Try to recibrate the esc.
If that doesnt work then do a reset on the apm back to factory defaults and set it up again.
