I just lost my Skywalker 2 days ago. It had GoPro, etc on it.. lots of money and time.  I don't have my APM2 yet and I had no RTL .   Still not sure what happened to it, as the video just went completely off, no warning, did not flicker, never came back . I did even have diversity antennas, etc.. so I am thinking VTx failure or wiring failure.

Anyway... so I want to do better next time and since I have the APM2 on its way, if I had the 3dr radio setup, I think I could find a downed plane.

Am I correct in that thinking?  I am assuming the radio survived the crash and stayed powered etc..

thanks

Yes, it would not only give you a live GPS position, but if for some reason the GPS broke on impact, you would have the trail of GPS points leading up to that moment. You would also have full altitude and velocity. You could even extrapolate the trajectory after loss of GPS, based on last know position, altitude, velocity and direction.

Of course this assumes that you are logging the telemetry stream at a ground station.
