Radio and Motors for first time 3DR ArduCopter

I'm a first time quad builder, I'm planning to purchase the complete 3DR ArduCopter kit with motors and frame. There are two options for motors, which should I choose?

Secondly, what radio should I choose? I'd like one that will let me move forward with a bigger octo eventually.

Thanks for the help!

  • No, not a lot of people come here.

Have you played with this before?

FWIW, I have flown my 3DR Quad with a 3S 2200mAh 20C battery with no problem.  Flight time is about 7 minutes, and it's gentle.  I've also flown it with a 4S 5000 battery.  Much more power, and 10 minute flights with a FPV camera system onboard.

  • Does no one read these forums?

My searching the forums hasn't turned up much useful info. I chose a Futaba FG-8 and the 880kv motors with 11inch props.

I'm still struggling with choosing a battery. I think I understand now how to calculate draw, but I'm probably missing something. Some guidance would be helpful.

    Thanks

  • So, I'm thinking for forward thinking and staying in this hobby I'm going to get a Futaba 8FG Super, is that a good choice?

As far as battery, I'm just going to do the math and choose something that calculates to a decent flight time, but could someone recommend a brand?

    Thanks in advance
