Radio Calibration Problem

We are using an APM 1.x board that had been used for a quad copter for a new build of a high altitude glider.  I have reset the eeprom and downloaded ArduPilot 2.65.  All of the on board sensors and the GPS are working, but I can not get the board to recognize the RC input. I get no response when I go to the Radio Calibration screen.  I have verified the transmitter and receiver by connecting the servos directly to the receiver and they work as expected. When connected to the APM, Channel 4 appears to pass through and moves the servo as if it were connected to the receiver.  Channels 1-3 have no apparent effect.  None of the receiver channels appear on the Radio Calibration screen.  I am baffled.

Thanks

    @Peter,

    Have you tried looking at the receiver inputs using the CLI? Don't forget to move the CLI switch to the rear for testing and to the front for flying. I assume that the receiver is powered and is linked to the transmitter before attempting calibration? Also, do you have a dc rtn connection between the receiver and the APM? If you are powering the receiver with the APM, then you have established a dc rtn between the two. Is the blue PPM encoder led flashing or solid? Should be flashing until receiving receiver PWM input and then goes solid.
