Radios connect to each other (LED's solid), but cant connect on the computer? *resolved*

So, the manual I have states a solid green LED means that the two radios are connected to each other. On Mission planner, i've gone ahead and done the radio setup as well, and it's confirmed that its saved the two settings on both of the radios.

However, whenever i try to click the "connect" button on the top right, it doesnt connect to telemetry/mavlink. I've tried this with linux, windows 7, apmplanner2, qgroundcontrol and mission planner, with 2 different pixhawk moduels and with 2 different computers. Obviously i'm missing something here, or I havent done something correctly. Can anybody tell what's wrong?

FIXED: new firmware installed via ftdi on both
