RC calibration not working

Hello, can't calibrate my RC under mission planner. I follow the procedures but can't seem to get a signal through.

I have an APM 2.5, the hobbyking 6 channel tx and rx, a 40A turnigy ESC. Used for a bixler.

Connections made

- APM to laptop via USB

- Receiver 1,2,3,4,5 to APM inputs 1,2,3,4,8

- APM outputs 1,2,4 to ailerons, elevator, and rudder

- APM output 3 connected to ESC (is that right?)

Powering APM through USB works, and software connects to it. However can't calibrate radio, nothing happens when i move the sticks around under mission planner. Connecting battery to power module does the 3 beeps, plus 1 beep per second after that. Moving RC sticks around does nothing on the plane, or on the mission planner. I know the radio works because I have a digital radio software that reads the inputs fine.

Any pointers to what I'm doing wrong appreciated.

Thanks a lot

Confirm the receiver is working, plug a servo directly into one of the receiver output.

ensure you have the receiver plugged into the right side of the board.

ensure you are providing enough power to the board. and receiver.
