RC Mode Switch Loosing/Gaining control

I have been using my Ardupilot Mega Plane with the Rc mode switch positioned in Manual, Stabilize and RTL. It is working perfectly when I move my switch back and forth between modes. Now I want to move to Auto Mode using the Mission Planner and start playing with different missions, but I have a question I need someone to clarify before I do that.

1) Can I move to Auto Mode from the Mission Planner while I have my RC Mode switch in the Manual Mode position? If the answer is yes, does this mean I loose control of of my RC Mode switch and the only way to regain control is thru the Mission Planner going back to Manual Mode?

2) If all of question #1 is true and I loose communication on my telemetry port how do I regain control of my RC mode switch to go back to Manual Mode?

I'm using Mission Planner version 1.0.49 and APM firmware version 2.21.

Thanks in advance for any response,

Hector

    1. partly yes. manual will always be manual (RC). stabalise and rtl can be overriden from the gcs to be any mode

    2. this isn't an issue, as hardware manual will always be hardware manual.
