i was just wondering if i could use a FM transmitter/receiver (72MHz or other) which is compatible with the APM(Ardupilot Mega). which comes with a standard arducopter KIT.
if not then plz suggest me Rx/Tx which does not work at 2.4Ghz

All normal R/C Radio/receiver packets works with ArduCopter kits. As long as your receiver is meant for general R/C hobby it works. Ok i don't mean those mini radios with 1 up/down stick and 1 left/right stick.
Fist rule, if you can connect normal 3 wire servo to your receiver. It works..
Like Sebastian said, minimum is 4 channels but 6+ is highly recommended.. 8 is minumim if you plan to have camera controls and some other nice things too...
