Roll stabilized camera

Hello,

I'm interested in doing some photomapping and DEM. I'm currently designing a plane for that purpose. Some questions have come up that I haven't been able to find an answer to. Maybe you can offer some guidance.

Is a roll stabilized camera necessary for making orthophotos?

I've seen planes with camera stabilization and without it. I've gotten the impression that planes without cam stabilization are doing their job just as fine as the ones with stabilization.

As I would like to keep things really simple and small I'd rather use a camera without a gimbal. What are the disadvantages of this approach?

Regards

Martin

No it's not necessary, but a nice to have. These days a GPS in the camera is more important. Simple is always best the secret sauce is in the post production and legal requirements of whatever country you are in. Have a look at http://www.dronemapper.com
