six props a day keeps the fun away

Hi

am new here with arducopter. And I think i am too stupid for it:

I fly a hexacopter (arducopter) for 4 weeks and it is fun but I crash it very ofter. I had the following problems:

1. lost a prop in 50m heigth: full crash, 2 Motors broken, 5 props broken, 2 aluminium parts broken

2. motor burn up: full crash: 5 props broken, 1 aluminium part of the frame broken

3. today: after 2 good flights I started again and the hexa started on a big half circle and crashed up side down into the gras: 5 props broken

My settings are:

Arducopter 2.0.38, 6 keda motos, with 10x4.5 props,

Props: these are the props from the Conrad quadrocopter. I have to drill the 3mm hole up to 5mm to screw it to the motor

Questions:

- is it normal that I crash the copter every third start and break 2-6 props?

- is it normal that I spend 3hours in reparing and than 3 min flying.

attached you will find an picture.

with best regards

  • I am really sorry for your bad luck.

Sometimes things just don't work the way you want them to.

I've got a question: You are flying a hexacopter and after losing just one prop your copter crashed?  I was planing on upgrading my quad to a hexa just to be more save in case a prop goes down the hill.

    Please explain what happened exactly

Props flying off and motors burning out are just one of the risks of multicopters--there are a lot of moving parts, and even more so on a hexa. They've happened to all of us, including me (my own fault for not checking/tightening screws before flights). Over time, pre-flight routines become more second nature and these issues tend to go away.

I suggest you take a break until we release the 2.0.40 code this week, which has a lot more error-checking in it. We can actually save your copter if a prop falls off or motor fails! (Very quick detection and compensation). On a hexa you may be able to fly it down safely; on a quad we can't keep it in the air in the event of a hardware failure like that, but the code can try to make it fall upright and as slowly as possible to minimize damage.
