Just read this! So if your drone is under 2kg, you don't need a permit or SFOC to fly a drone?

That is not totally correct. If your drone is under 2 kg and you meet all of the requirements of the Exemption rules you do not need a SFOC. Many operators will still require a SFOC even under 2 kg, as not all operators will meet the requirements to be considered exempt. It will depend on where and what you are doing.
If you do not meet ALL of the requirements in either weight category a SFOC will still be required.
Insurance is still one of the requirements to meet the Canadian exemption rules for UAVs operated commercially.
