Sonar

Morning,

I know one can see sonar in CLI -> test -> Sonar.  Is this information available whilst flying?  The only thing I see move is alt_error when i move objects closer to the sonar, but -0.42 is not too interesting for me.

I just purchased at MB1200 EZ0 Sonar to replace my LV sonar.  The LV sonar showed min of 20cm and the Xl is showing min distance of 33cm, is this correct?

Regards,

Solo.

  • Where you able to obtain real time OSD Sonar information?  I would like to use the sonar (and eventually LIDAR) to obtain range <30m to structures.  Thanks, Mark

  • James,

Did you get this sorted out?

As I was trying to tweak my Altitude Hols PIDs got to suspect that there is a problem with my Sonar (same as you are using - the MB1200). So again I run CLI test Sonar, and the sonar is working, reading values from 32cm and higher. Ok, good.

But then I started to compare the reported values with reality, and it turns out that reported values are close to 50% too high!!

    At

    real distance 0 - 20cm   sonar reports       32cm

real distance    100cm   sonar reports  ~150cm

real distance    200cm   sonar reports  ~300cm

    Disturbing!

I have measured the analogue voltage from the Sonar and it is according to specs:
(Vcc/1024) per cm. So at Vcc 4,6V i measured 0,45V at real distace 100cm and 0,90V at real distance 200cm.

Is this a current software bug, or what?

Any more of you guys noticed this discrepancy?

  • Hi Michael,

    What are the chances?

Go to your Flight Data screen. At the bottom of the map, find the "tuning" checkbox. Check it.

Now, double click on the resulting chart.

De-select the current values, and find some that interest you. ;)

  • Yes, my XL also shows figures larger than the true distance. It's probably just a question of adjusting the scaling in the code. The code used to have different scaling factors for different sonars, now it treats them the same. Did the LV result in accurate numbers? Interesting...

  • Numbers are off with the XL too.

    Tape measure 70cm.

    LV reads +-70cm

    XL reads +- 94cm

    Seems really weird.
