Speed Controls

I have an Electrifly SS-25 ESC with a built in "Safe Start Program."

Unfortunately, when linked into the Ardupilot, I can't get past the throttle setup.
This is where you bring the throttle to full and back down to 0 to engage the motor / ESC.

Anyone else with this problem? Know of any workarounds? If not, any good ESCs on the market that don't have a safety feature like this?

The 100 output in APM only means you've passed a threshold. If you have Max set at 1500 PWM and your radio is outputting 1900 you'll get 100. Therefore you can't trust the 100 value.

The Hardware Manual flight mode is a total passthrough so you should be able to arm your ESC without issue.

It should not be a problem. I have used the same (I think, or very similar) esc. Use the radio test program to determine the min and max for your throttle channel (and all the other channels). Enter the values in your config file. To fly just start up your system, switch into MANUAL mode if you are not there already, run the throttle up to full so the ESC arms, run it back down and get the ESC confirmation tones, and you are ready to go.
