Stupid Question Time - Trimming motor wires?

OK, I know this is probably stupid, but I want to make sure before I go cutting wires. Here's a photo of one of my hex arms:

Besides being ugly, I'm sure it can't be good to have cables gathered up like that. Will I be hurting anything if I clip the motor wires and solder on new bullet connectors to clean this up a bit? Plus, it would decrease the total weight a bit :)

Just want to be sure I'm not messing something up...

  • Some motor wires are really the enameled copper wires from inside the motor that just had some plastic insulation pulled over it. At the end the mfg has removed the enamel somehow and soldered on a connector. It you cut these, you will have a fun time trying to solder through or remove the tough, heat-resistant enamel. Sometimes ppl think they have soldered it OK but really there is little or no contact or the whole solder joint will later fall apart, that's why we see all those "never cut the leads" warnings.

Your motor seems to use nice standard non enameled wires for leads, and they can be shortened without problem.
