I have the 2.5 3DR APM

GPS accuracy on the ground sucks, we all know that.

I have this very simple need, when moving TX switch to "Auto" on channel 5

- auto take-off from the ground

- hike to 50m straight above

- loiter at 50m exactly above the point where it took off from

I see the following problems

- GPS correct point in the air may differ from the GPS point which was on the ground at take-off.

- If I just say "hike to 50 meters high" without GPS help, wind may make it drift, which can be dangerous.

- if quad tries to go straight to correct GPS position from the ground, it may "jump" toward this position, which can be dangerous.

So what do you guys suggest for this "should-be-simple" case ?

  • Usually i set the quad to loiter at the first waypoint that i set for about 50 seconds and usually it gets to altitude by then.
