Hello,

The story:

I buy a 2.4GHz telemetry kit (based on XBee Pro S1 module) from Buildyourowndrone. I made some test with the APM 2.0 and a 5V source all was working nicely, only the XBee module on the XtreamBee Board was a littlebit to hot for me.

I connect all this stuff on a 5V UBEC. Result, the XBee module on the XtreamBee Board burned ! I check the UBEC -> 5.2V OK but the XtreamBee Board as a 3.3V converter... I check the XtreamBee Borad there is a "direct" connection between the CTS and the 5V source without a level converter !? I made some search and find that this fix is a workaround for the XBee Pro 2.4GHz !? But, the XBee Pro module is not 5V tolerant:www.digi.com/pdf/ds_xbeemultipointmodules.pdf

I connect the other XBee Module on the XtreamBee Board and a 5V power source and check the 3.3V line on the XtreamBee board, I measured 4V that not normal!?

I check the voltage without the connection between the CTS and the 5V -> 3.3 V !

The question:

Is my XtreamBee Board faulty ?

Is the connection between the 5V and the CTS the good solution ?

Can some one else check the voltage on the 3.3V pin (only on the 2.4GHz Xbee telemetry kit)

Thanks

Tops

  • I moved the CTS bridge to the 3.3V line and ..... everything is working ! COOOL :-)

I connected the XtremeBee on the APM 2.0 and the APM 2.0 on a 5.0V source. I measured the 3.3V line -> result : 3.28V

I checked the connectivity with the Mission Planner, everything is working !

  • I received the new Xbee module from Martin (Buildyourowndrone) thanks for the support...

I have the same problem with the new module. I made a picture to explain it...

I will try to connect the cts to the 3.3V line ... wait and see ;o)

  • I have a 2.4GHz kit from buildyourowndrones in the UK which I have just got working today.  With my initial set up, I measure 4.69V across the GND to + 5V pin (output from the AMP 2 board) and 3.67V across the GND to 3.3Vpin.  The 5V input pin is solder bridged to the CTS line.

I am planning to add a separate UBEC to power the APM2.  If the voltage on this is closer to 5V, then the 3.3V would also rise and I could face the same problems.  Is there a fix for this?

  • Nobody has this 2.4GHz kit ?

Can some on check the voltage between the GND and the 3.3V pin ?

    Thanks

  • I can't help, but I am having issues with my 900 mhz xbees, My xstream adaptor on the drone side is doing nothing now but solid leds, it worked great for a few days and seems to have died.  I am powering directly off the bec on the esc.  I have been posting all weekend, with no response.  My multi meter is dead, so I can't go as in depth, but I think it is the xsteam bee having an issue.  What manufacture date is on your xstream drone side?
