Telemetry Relay

I plan on building a system to relay telemetry from a low flying craft back to the ground station via a high flyer that is orbiting with line of sight to both the ground station and low flying craft.  my question is simple - has anyone ever done this with rfd900 (or rfd900+) modems?  I would think all i need to do is establish the two links and connect the two modems in the high flyer with a null modem cable.  am i missing something or would it be that simple?

    Hi Dennis, 

    How far did you get with this project? 

    I need the same but with a few minor difference:

    1. I need to have 10 planes flying low over the forest canopy (no cell coverage, least not on the ground)

    2. I need 2 GCS, one on each side of the forest. 

    3. standard 3dr 433Mhz  telemetry modules work for me till about 20Km with a tuned antenna.
