Hi all,

I would like to test out my APM 2.5 by riding along in a friend's aircraft and seeing the data (pitch, roll, accelerations, altitude, etc) from the APM hooked to my laptop. I would like to record the data while flying and plot it out using Excel back on the ground. I expect to watch the data on the plotting and HUD+dials of the SUPERGREAT Mission Planner. WOW - you guys have done a terrific job!

I assume that I will need to change the code in the APM a little to get it to record data packets even though it is still connected via the USB cable to the laptop running the Mission Planner. Any ideas?

BTW, Has anyone already found a way to plot using Excel or is the logfile in CSV format already?

I really appreciate the help! This project has so many great contributors!

Dave

P.S. I posted this in the Mission Planner topic but decided that it needs to be where the APM code team might view it

Yes, i agree that you should get all that without any code changes.  the mission planner stores tlogs in it's logs directory.  Also the APM stores logs in the dataflash.  They're different formats so you need to use different parts of the mission planner to review the results later..

the dataflash you need to download using the terminal screen. The tlogs you can review from the Flight Data screen's Telemetry logs tab (look waaay down at the bottom below the HUD).

  • That should work with no changes but you will probably need to hook up a RC receiver and transmitter so that you can control flight modes and it will think that it’s flying. Just turn off the airspeed sensor. After you make a few turns it should have a good wind estimate and compute airspeed fairly accurately. I have a 6 ft RC model that flies at 40+ MPH with no airspeed sensor and the latest firmware does a very accurate computation.
