Testing motors without Tx

Hi all,

I'm waiting for my Turnigy 9x to arrive to control my new 3DR Y6 kit with APM 2.6, and I'm looking for ways to make sure I'm ready once it gets here. However, I haven't been able to test the motors yet.

I have tried the following:

  1. disable radio calibration pre-arm check, set parameters to make motors spin "slowly" when armed, and arm the copter via APM Planner - motors don't spin
  2. connect to APM via the command line feature of APM planner and run "motors|test" - motors don't spin

The copter gives me a tune and one beep when I connect the batteries, and from what I've read this is normal for recent versions of ArduCopter. My telemetry, FPV, and OSD are all working correctly.

Since I don't have my Tx unit yet, I haven't been able to do ESC calibration or radio calibration through APM planner.

Will I be able to see the props spin without a Tx? Can I use a ps3 controller without fancy hardware just to do a test? I just want to spin the props slowly to make sure I wired my ESCs correctly!

Thanks,

Nick

  • Just for posterity, I was unable to calibrate ESCs or test my motors until I got my control unit.
