thought off the top of my head...

i was thinking... knowing the hardware having its memory limits i wonder if its able to have a loader so that way it could have more memory. I was thinking of creating a loader that would pull info from a usb thumb drive that only weighs a cupple oz at best. What would need to be done to do that? I think it would be interesting because the thumb drive would be able to not only hold the code for the arduino to process but it would also make room for say aerial photos or video possible without the added weight of a heavy video camera. It was a thought i had when i woke up and i was wondering what the up side and the down sides are of this idea. thanks in advance.

  • You're not going to be able to push photos through the Arduino. You'll get around 5 KB/s at best (on serial, assuming no processing is done), so that's around a minute for a decent 300 KB photo. During this minute the 'duino will not be able to perform any calculations (e.g. stability).
  • http://diydrones.com/forum/topics/gumstix-autopilot might be worth your time. The arduino cores are really struggling with the work they are doing just keeping the thing aloft.

As for video cameras if you are willing to downlink you can keep all the recording equipment and just have one of them spy cameras on the UAV. You can get some pretty light HD video cameras now, which is usually enough res to pull stills from.
