Tips: APM and Arduplane

Hi,

I have implemented the APM to my Parkzone T28 Trojan.

The APM2 worked out of the box with no modifications in any of the PID parameters.

That was - awesome !

Four tips:

- WAIT until GPS loc is green before takeoff

- before starting mission, fly away not too distant and test "return to home" mode, if not working - land and check out why not working

- before takeoff, switch to "stabilize" mode, shake the plane and check whether all "correction" rudder impulses are right !

-Use binoculars to follow the plane during the mission.

Best regards

rudolf

  • Thanks I'm in the process of installing a new 3D Robotics Ardupilot APM2.5 in my old T28.  These are helpful tips.  I have the basics working in stabilize and manual mode but still need to practice and get more comfortable before first flight and trusting something besides cables between my receiver and servos for the first time in my life!   Glad to hear it worked out of box for you.

I only bought the APM kit (with gps and 3DR radio add on options) a few days ago and so far I'm am very impressed and really enjoying playing with the technology.  If it works as I'm thinking it will, will be hard to imagine how I ever flew without it.  Of course, now more things to go wrong as well.

Setting it up on a Spectrum 6i for now.
