Trim problem.

Have a pitch (fwd/aft) trim problem with a quad and hex with the current 2.1.1, it need max sub trim and almost max normal trim to stay centered in no wind.  I know its not the aircraft motors or esc's as I am experiencing the same issues with both quad and hex when I transfer the APM between the two.  I have no reason to believe its the programming so it leads me to the board.

Question is:  How can I troubleshoot this?  If I can, what kind of values should I be looking at?

Thanx

  • Start by using the auto-trim feature.  When you arm the motors, hold the rudder to the right for 20s, then take off and the quad will trim itself whilst taking your corrections into consideration.  Make sure you are also 1m above the ground to be out of prop wash and that you are perfoming the auto-trim in a 100% windless environment.

Do not use the built in trim functions in your radio, there is no point.

If you have to use full trim on the radio at this point, I suspect that your quad or hex is really un balanced and although using the auto trim feature will help, your motors carrying the additional load will be under more strain.  This is easily checked as one motor will be a little more hot than the others.  Try and balance the CG first and if your CG is pretty much center and you still have troubles, then start looking for faulty hardware like stiff motors etc.
