Trouble uploading v2.6 with Arduino 1.0.1

I just downloaded arducopter 2.6 and unzipped it to my arduino sketch folder. Yes I have the library folder there also. When I try to compile I get the following errors. I'm doing this on OS X now but I've also tried it on windows 7 with the same result. I'm trying to upload to a 1280 board and have chosen the board type Arduino Mega (ATMega1280)

/Applications/Arduino.app/Contents/Resources/Java/hardware/tools/avr/bin/../lib/gcc/avr/4.3.2/../../../../avr/bin/ld: ArduCopter.cpp.elf section .text will not fit in region text
/Applications/Arduino.app/Contents/Resources/Java/hardware/tools/avr/bin/../lib/gcc/avr/4.3.2/../../../../avr/bin/ld: region text overflowed by 2108 bytes

Thanks and is 2.6 the latest I can use on a 1280 board without stripping out anything?

So you're using an APM1 with a 1280 board eh?  That is pretty ancient..the 1280 went end-of-life well over a year ago..i think closer to 2 years ago.  You know, I think 3dr is offering a discount on the 2560 to try and get rid of the last of the 1280s.
