Newbie here with some questions. First some background. I have been building and flying R/C aircraft since 1963. Had to build my first transmitter and radio from a bag of parts. Best survelliance aircraft was a 12 foot Sr. Telemaster built in Germany many years ago (75) I mounted a 35mm camera in the body looking out the side. The wings served as pointing devices, and the flash was always on and could be seen out the belly. My flying here in Northern Virginia came to an abrupt halt after 9/11 when all the local flying fields evaporated. Now I am looking to start up again and move out of this area. However, in the past few years, Transmitters and Radios have seen a major technological upgrade, and I am at a loss as to where to shop, and what to buy.
A visit to a local R/C shop and I got my hands on a Specktrum transmitter, but the DRX 7 did not have a proportional channel for flaps. (Most my aircraft have fowler type flaps) Off, half, and full is not good enough for + 300 bucks in my estimation, but one cannot tell from pictures. FHSS modulation is a good idea, and I would like to go to 2.4Ghz just to get into a frequency band that is dedicated for UAV/RC activity.
So what's the best bang for the buck radio system out there?
Thanks

The DX7 flap switch is three position and programmable which is perfect for controlling the Mode of the Ardupilot board.
