UAV Insurance in Canada for research projects

Hello, I am a student using a DJI Phantom 3 to collect elevation values for a GIS Masters project.

I'm having trouble obtaining an SFOC due to lack of insurance and am just looking for some input on the regulations in Canada.

I've been quoted a range of $500-$700 dollars for liability coverage; however I am having trouble committing to this expense as I am a student, and I only need to operate the UAV for a single flight over rural private property. It seems outrageous that this will be the cost of insurance and that I need to buy an annual policy to cover one flight.

Does anyone have any advice or experience with Transport Canada regulations for a situation like mine?

Thanks!
