UBLOX problem with APM 2.0

Still having issues. I purchased a UBLOX LEA-6 from 3DR and when it came, could never get it to recognize any satellites. Did an RMA and they sent me a new unit. Getting the same result. In the meantime, I had received a JDrones Mediatek unit with battery - it works perfectly.

With the Mediatek, from a cold start, it took 5 minutes to get a lock and once locked, took under a minute each time it gets power cycled.  Usually getting HDOP of 1 and 10-12 satellites.

With the UBLOX, using same cable and APM2 in teh same location, it sat out for 2 hours ans still had no lock of any kind. Mission Planner shows 0 satellites and 100 HDOP.

Is it possible something is wrong with the APM2 that only shows up with teh UBLOX but not the Mediatek?

What do I need to do to connect the UBLOX to my PC to see if it is working properly?

  • Had the same problem. Double check the connections of the GPS unit and the APM.

I had loose connections and when holding the connector to side positions I received a signal.

Bending the little wires within the connector solved the problem.

  • I have since ordered a mediatek and it works. Flashed blue for about 5 min then went solid and ground station showed 3D lock with 5 satellites. Two ubloxs never acquired 1 satellite with open sky and more than 30 min of waiting.
  • I have purchased two ublox gps units from 3d robotics, cannot get anyone on the phone to help.  Have sent multiple emails, etc...  Read many threads and ordered the second one based on the comments I read.  All I can conclude is that the quality is horrible so I will not roll the dice on another $80 gps module.  Too bad, I have ordered APM2.5, airspeed sensor, gps, 3dr radios,  etc... have had all since Dec. and cannot use any of it because of the gps that will not acquire.  I am sick about how much I have spent on this and cannot get any help.  I have flown my plane in manual and all other sensors are working and communicating with the groundstation, but that is not what I purchase these items for.

  • Hey Chris! No - no blue LED. The Mediatek comes on as expected - flashing blue then locks. On the UBLOX, just the red LED is on. Using the same cable that came with the UBLOX on both units.

Is the blue LED coming on solid on the uBlox?
