Hi Guys

im flying a skywalker x8 with apm 2.6 , video encoder board and ubiquiti 5.8ghz mimo link

the video encoder board has 3 configurable serial ports.

my plan is to have flight telemetry on one of the serial ports using UDP to either mission planner / qground control / or apm planner 2

and independent camera telemetry on another serial port

I am streaming video no problem.

I have been trying to create the UDP link flight telemetry with out success

my video board has ip address 192.168.88.12

i have set the send and listen port on the video board to 14550

and speed of 57600 (because the telemetry radios worked at that rate)

my pc has static ip address of 192.168.88.7

i thought if i set everything up as per my 433mhz radio i would get the same telemetry control (Y/N)

for testing i have ethernet cable in place of the ubiquiti radio and use wireshark to monitor the LAN port

mission planner ...i set local host to 14550 and then i get a window stating waiting on UDP and nothing on wireshark showing any UDP connect attempts

apm planner v2  ... i add a udp link ... i change port from default 5555 to 14550 and set host to 192.168.88.12:14550 i get connected appear in the UDP setup window but nothing happens.

also how do you clear the old links from the communication window , i have to delete them manually everytime i open the programme (try uninstalling and reinstalling but all the links remain)

qgroundcontrol here i have seen sparadic packets being received but then programme crashes stating check baudrate,  in testing i have been able to type messages using to / from  qgroundcontrol usning serial usb adaptor.

Can anyone recommend some setting to get me going

do i have to write scripts or set something up on the apm board that im missing

there seems to be very little detail in setting this type of link up can any please help !!!!

thanks in advance

APM Planner v2.0 listens on port 14550 on startup for UDP packets, you don't need to change anything.

Also your ethernet cable needs to be a 'cross cable' if you don't have a router.

    • thanks for the reply Bill

i am streaming video down the link ( ethernet cable ) so thats not my issue.

to clarify so i dont have to write any script or anything, it should just work, at 57600

do you know how i can clear the communication link history , so i dont have to delete the links manually everytime i open apm planner v2, i've tried tried uninstalling. (pc win 7 64 bit machine)

        >do you know how i can clear the communication link history ,

try APM Planner 2.0.15-rc3 or greater. You can trigger that download by enabling the 'beta' option in the APM Planner 2.0 Config pane.

As for the specifics, maybe send a picture of how you have things connected. How do you know you have video streaming down the link? how are you verifying that and how is it connected?

I haven't set-up this system before, but I have used UDP to connect using WiFi to a drone many time, so I understand the connectivity arrangements required.

        • down loaded APM Planner 2.0.15-rc3

no difference apart from now when you go to delete a UDP link it crashes the programme everytime.

          pictures attached show

drone internal from back 2200mah AV / link battery -- gps -- apm 2.6 -- traco power regulator prodiving stable 12v for video and stable 24v poe for ubiquiti 5ghz wisp link. --- 5 ghz wisp unit -- 2x8.4 mah 3s flight batteries

drone test setup shows streaming video thro the ethernet cable in place of the wifi link for testing purposes

qgroundcontrol show qgroundcontrol with received packets in its top left window but then display the baud rate mismatch message. on right is wireshark shows the packet flow between drone and pc

          • The fault was an impedance missing match between APM and my video encoder board.
Had to use a transistor buffering circuit as a bi directional logic converter didn't have low enough impedence.

I have had the same issue with logic levels. And logic level converters not doing what was expected.
