Hello everyone! My first post here so hopefully its not too "noob"
I've been working on a research project that included several iris+ quads from 3DR and now that they are not longer available I need to create a drone from scratch to keep moving forward with our research. So I need some help making sure I have all the right parts!
I came up with a diagram from all the reading ive done and all the times I've put the iris+ back together from a crash. Here it is:
What im trying to get an understanding on is if these are the major parts to a drone and their "location".
For instance, in the centre body of the drone, the FC is located. inside the FC there is the Mag, Bar, etc.
Does this seem right? Am I missing something of super importance?
The main thing I'm trying to accomplish is a somewhat water resistant drone that connects to a laptop via mavlink and runs arducopter. We send it some commands and it runs paths. No real need of a camera just yet but in the future we would be taking some light pictures.
Any help greatly appreciated as I try to understand and build my first drone from scratch!

The Magnetometer and GPS Receiver are a combined device in a housing seperate from the Pixhawk case. There may be a Magnetometer on the Pixhawk board as well but once you plug in the GPS/Mag device, they become primary.

Hi Ray
Isnt the mag, acc, bar, and gps on board the pixhawk?
This is what the specs say:

Any specific flight controllers you would recommend?
My understanding was that the pixhawk had the gps and mag on the fc, did I miss understand that?

You are missing a receiver and perhaps a UBEC (depends on the PDB you are using and whether it has a 5v+ filtered power tap). Also, I would show the GPS and Magnetometer separated from the Flight Controller since that is most common now.
