Has anybody used a different USB to serial adapter to configure or update the 3dr 915 MHz radios? I don't currently have the FTDI cable but I have a boatload of PL-2303 based serial adapters that seem to be basically the same thing. Is there anything different about these types of adapters? Is there a special format that the 3dr radios use (3.3 vs 5 vs 12 volt "high" signal?). Does the radio use the CTS/RTS lines for flashing or does it just need tx/rx/power? I would feel stupid paying ~$25 dollars for such a simple part if I already have the equipment that I need to flash my radios and I just need to hook it up correctly. If a PL-2303 won't work, are there any other options? Can I flash it with a generic arduino (or an APM 2.0?). If anyone has any input on updating/configuring these radios without the needlessly expensive cable please let me know.

Any USB-to-UART converter, recognisable by OS as COM port.
I've tried FTDI, Prolific and SiLabs.
