v3.0.1rc1 will not install to my APM2.5

I have APM2.5 with V2.9.1b installed and using MP 1.2.59 my quad wont update to v3.0.1rc1 even though MP goes through the motions and then shows Done. But on connecting to APM the software still shows V2.9.1b what am I doing wrong?

BTW I do select the beta version and MP shows latest version before I upload to APM.

    Where do you see that it's loaded v2.9.1b?

    V3.0.1 has now replaced v2.9.1b as the default so it's no longer necessary to click the beta firmware link
