Good evening Gents,
This will be a building discussion to convert my very old but not much flown BT with 1640mm rotor diameter to electric and Ardupilot.
What happened so far:
After discussing my concerns about safety in this forum, I am now convinced that the Ardupilot is "adult" enough to work in a big heli with a T/O weight of around 7.3 kg.
First decision is the motor:
Vario is using in its conversion for the BT the Kontronik 700-52 at 12 S lipo.
From the tests to electrify my 1.5 race car, I have a surplus Scorpion HK4035-800 for 8S lipo.
Pushing the datas in e-calc for heils- (txs to the swiss guys!) revealed that both motors will have the same performance at 12S respectivly 8S for the Scorpion- what is great news!
Actually the motor is too big, but the weight penalty is marginal, so it will be my first choice - leaves some room for improvement.
Power supply will come from 2x 4s1p 11.000 Max.Amps, which powered my heavy double tri with outstanding performance! I really can recommend this lipo with a total weight of 1.600 gr. only!
First work was to demount the gasser. The original Zenoah 23ccm is now retired, the original mechanical !! gyro is taken out and new servos to be installed.
The empty frame looks like that:
From now on all the neccessary parts will be installed to get a proper flying heli.
Will keep you informed.
( Comments for improving this task are very welcome!)
see you soon,
Wolfgang

best of luck! Should work..
Wow, interesting... but I am a little nervous. That's a big helicopter. You are aware that flight with the flybar is not currently well-tested?
