Very Weird 3DR Radio Hardware Problem!

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd share what seems like a hardware problem with one of my genuine 3DR 433 MHz Telemetry modules that appears to die after around two and a half minutes.

The sequence of events in the video is repeatable and is as follows:
1) Battery connected at 0:16s
2) Miscellaneous flashing red and green LEDs for around two and a half minutes ( cannot connect to Mission planner during this period ). Interestingly, they do not flash nearly as brightly as the LEDs on the other module.
3) At 2m53s, the both LEDs slowly fade out. (I recommend skipping to 2m45 for your sanity's sake.)

The lipo I have connected is putting out 11.1V after the LEDs have died and the APM 2.5 seems perfectly happy. When I try this module on the computer side (ie. connected to USB port) I get exactly the same problem only with this module and the other module (now on air side) appears to function normally with a bright flashing green LED.

Interestingly, after the LEDs on this module have faded out. I have to wait about ten minutes before I can reconnect the battery (or to USB port) to get them to relight. The module is not warm to the touch.

The strange thing about this is that it was working absolutely fine (with full connectivity to the Mission Planner) and just seems to have suddenly malfunctioned. Neither of these modules have even been in the air yet, let alone crashed.

I do not have MinimOSD connected and have not been fooling around with the settings as these things worked out of the box (for around twenty minutes total.)

I have pinged some help to 3DR, and am awaiting a response, but in the meantime any suggestions or confirmations of a similar experience would be greatly appreciated!

Best Regards,

Tim

  • I now have the same problem.
    Previously, everything worked well.
Changed in the settings of the air speed 128
After a few hours of mutations both worked fine.
Now I can not connect to the air module.

I do not know what to do next

  • Hi Guys,

Well, it seems like I'm the only one with this problem and I haven't heard anything at all back from 3DR.

Do you think I should just ask them to send out a replacement?

    Thanks,

    Tim
