Waypoints as failsafe boundry markers

I've had an interesing request from a flyer who wants to use waypoints as boundry markers.

He wants to fly in "free flight" mode (normal flight) but if the plane strays outside of given waypoint boundries he wants the autopilot to take over and return the plane to the takeoff site.

Does this sound possible? If so what code mods would be required

Thanks

Yes, this would be very easy to do. In the events tab, you could check the distance from home to set up a circular boundry and set the plane to Return to launch if it exceeds this distance. If you want to calculate th boundry of a polygon, that's more effort. I think those algorythms are commonly used in video games and could be repurposed on Ardupilot.
