Weird ESC Calibration question

Hi !

Just a question for confusion :).

Let's say I want to learn in a throttlerange between 1000-2000us into an ESC (or a bunch). Will the "learning effect/precision" be altered by the pwm frequency I use. When I learn them in with 50Hz and use them with 400Hz afterwards. Theoretically it should be no problem because at 400Hz there is 0.5 ms space left (400Hz = 2500us cycletime). But how does the theory live up to reality? Is it better to learn in the ESC with the PWM frequency that is later used by the FC? Is there a difference with special FW ESC, like SimonK?

  • The ESC calibration has to do with the PWM duration, not the operating frequency. The operating frequency shouldn't affect the calibration if it happens to change but I can't say for sure because I've never tested this theory. Worst case scenario you can just calibrate the ESC again. Hopefully it goes without saying but don't calibrate the ESC with a prop on the motor!
