What are Sonars for Arducopter used for?


I am working on objects detection so that it could send back data to me and do object avoidance. How many of the sonars are need if MB1200 XL-MaxSonar-EZ0 is used. If i want to detect at all 4 corners and ground detection do i have to have 5 of the sonars? And how do i go about installing them and what are the codes that i need to change and upload to the APM? And what else i need to take note of for the Mission planner if i install 5 sonars to it.

Need all the help i can get!!

  • Currently the APM only uses a single sonar, and it is simply used for ground detection, not obstacle avoidance.
