What board to buy...

Hey, I'm new to this and planning to buy my first quad. I love open source and to tweak stuff to obey my wish. haha

So im planning to buy a DJI F450 with motors and ECS´s and for the flight controller, Arducopter was the obvious choice due to all the flightmodes and the ability to change the code.

Today I was totally certen to buy the APM2.5 with the 3DR uBlox GPS as it seemed to be the best. Then I found the Multipilot 32 with an ARM processor running 78Mhz that used the Ardupirate NG code and saw some videos like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgtf93WVmpQ&feature=relmfu

So I thought this was the board to buy, but the Ardupirate NG hasnt been in development for the last year and a half so Im not sure if I can get all the new development featured by the original arducopter with this board, Can you do all the flight modes with the MP32 ? like "follow me" mode? Is it as stable as the 2.8.1 release? Can you do all the stuff as APM2.5 can? like connect the minimalOSD board?

So. what board gives the best performance related to development and stability, the MP32 or the APM2.5?

And on top of that I saw a new MP32 board with ARM Cortex-M4 processor running 168Mhz, this is a jungle!

  • All right, will order the APM2.5 with the better uBlox GPS. MinimOSD and a 3DR Telemetry kit :)

    Really looking forward to this.

..and just wait 'till you see 2.9!  :-)

I'm biased towards APM, of course, but advice is to look for the best code and strongest team/community/support rather than focus on hardware. The reality is that all of these boards work pretty much the same, and that processor speed matters less than sensors, accessories, and most importantly code/algorithms. The ArduCopter 2.8.1 code is the best the team has ever created, and that only runs on APM.
