What FC components impact on Loiter apart from GPS?

APM 2.6 running 3.1.4 and retried with 3.1.

New FC installed in my previously fully functional test frame, no other changes apart from addition of external compas.

Stab and alt hold are fine. When I switch to loiter the quad wants to run off somewhere, different direction and speed each time. I have 8 to 10 satellites and a HDOP around 1.8. I have tried 2 different GPPS/MAG units and get the same result. In the second flight (log attached) Autotuned successfully.

I have flown another quad just before and after (APM 2.5 with 3.1.4) as a test and get perfect loiter, so I tentatively rule out GPS issues. I assume that one option at least is that some component in the FC is not functioning correctly and wonder what it may be. What other than poor GPS  performance would cause the inability to loiter?

  • Mike,

I noticed you have a number of "high-resource" log categories turned on.  I am having a similar problem and am waiting to do a test flight with those log items turned off to see if the APM is getting resource constrained during Loiter by all the logging.  Looks like due, to wind, I won't be testing for a few more days - you might try another test with INAV, IMU and MOT turned off.

    Just a thought.

    Good luck

    Rick

    • Thanks for the comment. During the fault resolution process I have had many flights with only the default logs operative, these last two were the only flights with all the logs on. The loiter problem has been with me since I first installed this FC so I don't think that the logging would be the cause in my case.
