i have this pipe dream idea having my quad copter follow me or an object and maintain altitude and distance and record video while doing it. basically record myself, by myself with out having to trust someone else with my expensive toy who has no clue about getting the money shot.
I want a quad copter with a 2 axis gimbal and tilt control for video recording. i want fpv/pov ability cheaply. im considering 2 options
first is the DJI phantom 2 vision because it's pretty much out of the box everything, telemetry, fpv and tilt, all i would do is add a stand alone gimbal stabilizer with it's own power and and use the existing camera and tilt motor and attatch it to what ever gimbal i mounted. probably 1500 bucks all in with the gimbals im considering.
the second is a diy quad copter. not sure which model because the descriptions of them is pretty vague biggest red flag is unknown flight time. what did catch my attention was 1 word in the auto pilot modes, "Follow mode" i cannot find any information on this site what that mode does. im very interested in the specifics.
i know what im getting with the phantom but, a lot of the diy drone stuff is a mystery to me. i dont need the auto pilot ability but if i had it, im sure i would use it. so what would it take to get a diy drone to have all the bells and whiles a phantom has.

MikroKopter's electronics does have a follow me function. They are pricey but their stuff is the best.

Just get an Android tablet and use the follow me function that is in Andropilot and Droidplanner. You won't get that working with a Phantom.
