What should by first Quad Upgrade be?

I currently fly:

x4 quadcopter

FlySky FS-TH9X transmitter

Turnigy 9X reciver

3DR PPM multiplexer

3DR telemetry radio

3DR Pixhawk autopilot

ArduCopter V3.1.5

I have encountered and solved many problems, and now I finally feel relatively comfortable flying, changing parameters, reading log files, and fixing mechanical problems,  My next project is to modify my FlySky transmitter to run open TX so I can program all my switches.

My question to all of you is what would you recommend for my first upgrade should be?

Better transmitter/receiver?

High Gain antennas for tx / rx / radio?

Camera gimbal?

Video transmitter?

Antenna Tracker?

Range Finder?

Carbon Fiber body?

Go to eight motors?

What do you think and why.

Thanks for your input,

Rich

  • That's a good question.  Currently i'm in the learning mode, not the Doing mode, so I'm looking to add parts just to learn more.  But now that you asked, I guess ultimately I would like to fly autonomously over (un-populated) large distances (given battery life), while monitoring video and telemetry data. Perhaps even take off at one location and land at a WP 3K away.

  • What do you want to DO with your machine?

It's pretty hard to suggest upgrades without knowing what you eventually want to do that you currently can't.
