WILDLIFE ANTI-POACHING DRONE CHALLENGE

Hi everyone,

I've just been introduced to this challenge (http://www.wcuavc.com/) which basically is focused on the development of drones for rhino/elephant anti-poaching in Africa. I'm presently leaving in South Africa - where the challenge will take place - and I've been all my life involved with pilot training and the development and production of aircraft systems simulators for pilot and maintenance personnel training.

For a long time, me and my wife, we have been preparing to dedicate part of the year to get involved in wildlife protection.

I see this challenge as the chance of starting, but I'm only acquainted with the drone's aerodynamic design, parts design and manufacture as well as with the powerplant. In order to go ahead and enter the challenge, I'm in need to set up a team capable of handling the multiple subjects involved:

- Autopilot/flight guidance;

- Telemetry;

- Video transmission, etc..

For this reason I'm using this forum to launch this appeal.

I need to set up the team before I can make the next move which is the approach to a potential financial backer (I'm estimating +/- $6.000,00) for the first prototype as per the challenge's guidelines/specs.

There is many more ideas beyond the challenge, but to move on, the drone is the core of it all, so I appreciate your participation. Also, there is a tight time line to sign up to the challenge (30th June) but to do this we only need to present just the basic sketches of the overall project and then there will be a development/improvement period until November when the presentation flights will occur.

Hope you come on board!

Thank you!

P.S.: please contact me as there are many ways forward - after the challenge - which I'm ready to detail to those that are interested.

  • Hi Mario,
    We have been involved with the challenge initially. The entries closed already in October last year. The date of 30 June is another submission step for the currently enrolled teams.
    Check out UP's https://www.facebook.com/teamAREND, as far as I know they are still involved.

    • Hi Mario. I'm representing Project Arrow which is also entered into the Wild life UAV challenge. Unfortunately I'm falling behind. I have no team members so If there is anyone who is keen to be apart of this project you're welcome to join. Here is what I'm working on. http://mrt247.wix.com/project-arrow . Most of the work is researching products and getting stuff to work. You don't have to be local to help with the development of the UAV.
