Wind speed stable

hey folks,

I´m pretty familiar with copters now and run my own business, but I wanna start a new project with a plane. due to this I have a few questions to the professionals in here concerning wind speeds.

1) What kind of frame should I use to get the best possible stable flight under windy conditions? a common plane? Wing?

2) What is a realistic wind speed in which it is able to fly the plane stable in auto mode?

3) and at last, with what model do I get the things above and also long flight time?

I appreciate every answer and help

Thanks

Ben

  • 75 km @100 km/h is going to be dicey with an electric motor. The current draw would be quite high.

    At 60-70km/h 100+ km shouldn't be a problem.

With an IC engine 100+ km @ 100 km/h shouldn't be an issue.

  • What kind of distance should the plane travel in one flight?

  • A 3 meter 5+ kg plane flying at 30 meters altitude is not safe. Why do you need to fly so low?

  • 30 meters is a very low altitude to be traveling so fast. Long flight time and fast cruise speed requires an airframe with very low drag.

    What will be the payload?

You are beginning to talk up a big platform, no doubt it would have to be petrol. Landing in those sorts of speeds would be challenging. Downwind its going to take lots of sky to get back to track.

This then leads to what sort of wind speeds are you planning on operating in. I find that operating a platform that can fly at least twice the wind speed keeps things tidy so if if I wanted to be able to operate in 20 m/s winds I would want to be able to cruise at at least 40 m/s.

Also what is the airframe going to lift?

How much do you want to spend?
