WishList: Terrain

Hy

I currently use the new Terrain function in ArduPlane a lot. However most of the time I'm not connected over MavLink to my laptop and fly FPV around. Now to get the terrain data you either have to be connected to MissonPlaner or upload a mission with the region you're gona fly so that ArduPlane is going to update the Terrain Data over MissionPlaner.

It would be great if we can draw a Polygon and send all Terrain data in this Polygon to ArduPlane so that we know for sure that we have the terrain data available in the Area we like to fly.

What are your thoughts about this feature?

Thx

Andy

    some other suggestions here

  • I think you can already do this by drawing the shape you want with Rally Points, or waypoints. Then the terrain data will upload. Then you can change the flight plan or delete the rally points and the terrain data will remain of the flight plan falls within the original area.
I believe this is how Tridge described it. Give it a try and let us know.
    • Can you please tell me where to find this description, thanks

    • Thx for the reply, and I tried Tridges method. However I need to cover and area of 100x100km thats around 2500 Waypoints this can't be handled by MissonPlaner,

There for another function needs to be implemented when someone likes to get terrain data over larger area to the Pixhawk.

      Andy
